8 Common Sexually Transmitted Diseases You Need to Be Wary Of

Summary: Sexually transmitted diseases, also known as STDs, can be of various types – and almost all of them are caused due to bacterial or viral attacks. In what follows, I have provided a brief overview of a few relatively common STDs around the globe.

I have been involved in advanced gynecological research for more than seven years now. Over time, I have grown familiar with the suitable treatment procedures for practically all types of ‘lady-like’ problems. While general fertility problems or pregnancy-related complications are rather common, what alarms me most is the high (and increasing) incidence of serious sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) among younger ladies. Over here, I have written about some of the most frequently reported cases of STDs at any pregnancy and infertility center in Kolkata:

  1. Human Immunodeficiency virus – With well over 55000 new preys all across the world every year, HIV is easily the most common and rather fatal sexual disease. Unprotected physical unions with already infected partners are the chief cause of HIV attacks. According to sexology consultants, a lady can also be contaminated with the HIV virus while having anal intercourses. Asexual reasons, like via injections, can also lead to this disease rearing its ugly head. The health of the affected person deteriorates gradually due to HIV attacks, with chronic pains becoming almost a constant companion. Adding to the problems is the fact that, no specific cures for HIV have been discovered till date.
  2. Syphilis – At my pregnancy and infertility clinic in Kolkata, I come across quite a few patients suffering from acute cases of syphilis every month. While treating syphilis sores at an early stage are not particularly problematic, things can get a whole lot more complicated if the boils start appearing near the vagina/rectum as well. This STD can be contracted even if a lady is particular about having protected sex – since the sores can develop in any exposed part of the skin. The fatality rate of this bacteria-induced disease is on the higher side too.
  3. Chlamydia – As per the findings from pregnancy abortion research studies, this extremely common STD can affect the throat of patients as well, along with, of course, the vaginal/pelvic regions. If you are experiencing non-period bleeding and/or with greenish, painful discharges – you need to get in touch with your gynaecologist in Kolkata immediately. If neglected for extended periods, Chlamydia can even lead to HIV problems. Following regular antibiotic courses are often effective in removing the infections. While undergoing treatment for Chlamydia, ladies have to abstain from physical intercourses altogether.
  4. Trichomonoiasis – Commonly known as Trich, this STD has maximum chances of occurring in ladies under the age of 30. I generally recommend all patients who feel acute pains while having sexual unions and sharp itching sensations around the vagina, to go for diagnostic tests like ultrasonography in Kolkata on an emergency basis. An unpleasant odor can be emitted from the vagina as well, together with a thickish discharge. Trichomonoiasis can make pregnancy extremely problematic, and might even force expecting ladies to make appointments at an abortion clinic in Kolkata.

  1. Herpes – According to my studies on infertility treatment procedures, at least one in every seven ladies across the world fall prey to this serious viral STD. Herpes can occur from practically all types of physical contacts – right from exchange of bodily fluids, to even kissing and touching the skin of a patient. Any professional obstetrics and gynecologist in Kolkata would tell you that herpes can also be passed on from a mom to her child, at the time of delivery. There are no specific vaccinations for getting lasting relief from herpes, and even prolonged courses of IVF treatment can turn out to be useless. Symptoms can disappear for some time, but there remains a high chance of a relapse.
  2. Gonorrhea – If you are experiencing an uncomfortable burning sensation while urinating, there is every chance that you are suffering from Gonorrhea. Caused by acute bacterial infections, Gonorrhea can also cause vaginal discharges. Contrary to what is generally believed, risks of this disease cannot be totally ruled out, even if ladies stay away from all types of oral intercourses. Only last week, I started the treatment of a patient who had gonorrhea sores on her throat and trachea.
  3. HPV – This viral disease is relatively less serious in nature, and can be easily diagnosed through Pap-tests. Generally, small boils and/or warts develop around the cervix and the vulva, which can be removed through surgical procedures at any good abortion and infertility clinic in Kolkata. While the HPV sores are, in most cases, non-malignant, leaving them untreated for long can make your sex life problematic. Ladies infected with HPV are considered to be unsuitable for surrogacy in India as well.
  4. HEP-B – Medically known as Hepatitis-B, this STD causes severe damages to the liver. Almost all reported cases of this disease can be traced back to contaminations during unprotected physical intercourses. Even coming in contact with the saliva or blood of a patient can leave you exposed to the HEP-B disease. After childbirth, vaccines against this STD are administered to babies at any established IUI and IVF center in Kolkata – to diminish the risks of this disease occurring in future.

Hepatitis-C is yet another rather common form of sexually transmitted disease, which is generally accompanied with excruciating pains in the pelvis and the abdomen, together with the urine turning darker and thickish. Presence of lice in the pubic hair is not uncommon, and that can, over time, cause infections too. I keep advising all sexually active women to go for monthly gynecological check-ups – if there is any STD in your system, it needs to be diagnosed and treatments have to start as quickly as possible!
